Assistant Manager

Position This is a full time position working 45 - 50 hours per week.  

Job Description:

The Assistant Bakery Manager works with staff members to ensure that guests receive excellent one on one customer service, oversees product quality, organizes and directs staff, sets service tempo, controls operating costs, plans for daily wholesale and retail orders,  provides ongoing training for staff, and has excellent commercial kitchen skills.

Duties:

  • Directs and organizes staff members to maintain a high level of customer service and productivity.  This requires working in the customer service area, kitchen, or bake area for the majority of each shift.
  • Trains staff by delivering training sessions; reviewing staff job results and evaluating needs within the bakery.
  • Assists Store Manager in keeping up with baking and foodservice demands during high volume meal periods.
  • Promotes a productive and efficient work environment.
  • Increases sales by sampling and suggesting products to customers.
  • Helps customers by providing information, answering questions, obtaining customer orders, completing payment transactions, and preparing products for pick up or delivery.
  • Prepares sales and customer relations reports by analyzing and categorizing sales information; identifying and investigating customer complaints and service suggestions.
  • Maintains a safe and clean store environment by taking action to resolve unsafe situations in the bakery.
  • Maintains inventory by checking merchandise to determine inventory levels and anticipating customer demand.
  • Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization and customer service standards.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and   establishing personal networks.
  • Contributes to the success of the bakery by accomplishing team objectives.

Skills/Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, the candidate must have demonstrated the management skills and abilities necessary to plan, organize, direct, and control all aspects of the daily business routine for a retail business.

 The candidate should have demonstrated abilities in:

  • Organizing and directing crews of at least 8 employees.
  • Resolving customer service issues and complaints.
  • Planning and utilize the daily work schedule.
  • Inventory management and control.
  • Analyzing sales and business information.
  • Understanding and implementing advertising and promotional goals.
  • Can demonstrate above average verbal and written communication skills.
  • Can work 8 - 9 hours per day on his / her feet to supervise staff members and interact with customers.
  • Can lift 50 pounds on a routine basis.

 
Shift: Variable;  4:30 a.m. - 1:30 a.m., 5:30 a.m.- 2:30 a.m. or 7:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.  Must be able to work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Salary $10.00 per hour @ 45 hours per week - 40 regular hours and 5 hours at time and 1/2)
Benefits Medical & Dental benefits after 90 days, we pay 80% of employee premium.

Paid Vacation, 1 week after 1 year of service; 2 weeks after 2 years of service.

City Bagel & Bakery is closed most major holidays, however staff and managers do not receive holiday pay.
Prior Experience Previous (1-2 years of food service management experience) is required.  Excellent food preparation and commercial kitchen experience are a must.  
Language Skills Applicants must be able to read and understand English and have fluent English speaking skills.
Training 6 Weeks of intensive on-the-job training is provided for all new assistant managers.
Age Requirements Applicants must be 18 years of age or older in order to operate mechanical slicing and baking equipment.

 

 Bagel Baker                                        

Position This is a full time position working Wednesday - Sunday.
Shift: 3:30 am to 12:00 Noon
Salary:  $9.00 per hour - $10.00 per hour based on experience
Prior Experience Not required, however previous food service experience is a plus.
Language Skills English language skills are preferred, but we do hire and train Spanish speaking employees for the Baker Position.
Training 3 Weeks of intensive on-the-job training is provided for all new bakers.
Age Requirements Bakers must be 18 years of age or older to operate mechanical baking equipment.

Dough Mixer

Position This is a full time position working Tuesday  - Saturday.
Shift: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Salary:  $8.50 per hour - $10.00 per hour based on experience
Prior Experience Not required, however previous food service experience is a plus.
Language Skills English language skills are required.
Training 3 Weeks of intensive on-the-job training is provided for all new bakers.
Age Requirements Dough Mixers must be 18 years of age or older to operate mechanical baking equipment.

 

Cook / Food Preparation

Position This is a full time position working 5 Days per week.
Shift: 5:30 am to 1:30 pm or 6:00 am  to 2:00 pm.
Salary: $7.50 to $9.50 per hour depending on experience, availability, and ability.
Prior Experience Not required, however previous food service experience is a plus.
Language Skills Applicants must be able to read and understand English as well as having fluent English speaking skills.
Training 2 to 3 Weeks of on-the-job training is provided for all new cooks.
Age Requirements Cooks and Food Preparation Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to operate mechanical slicing equipment.

 

Customer Service / Cashier

Position This is a part time position working 3 - 5 Days per week.
Shift:  4:30 to 1:00 pm or 6:00 am to 1:30 pm
Salary $7.50 to $8.50 per hour depending on experience and ability.
Prior Experience Not required, however previous customer service experience is desirable.
Language Skills Applicants must be able to read and speak English fluently.
Training 2 to 3 Weeks of on-the-job training is provided for all new customer service /cashiers.
Age Requirements Customer Service / Cashiers must be 16 years of age or older.  Applicants 16 and 17 years of age, must obtain a work permit prior to beginning work at City Bagel & Bakery.
